Plymouth’s forthcoming freeport and new marine industry initiatives will create an employment boom for the city with thousands of job opportunities, the city’s new Tory administration predicts. The Plymouth and South Devon Freeport, Smart Sound Plymouth, the Ocean Futures innovation support programme and the Plymouth Sound National Marine Park will together create jobs and cement the city’s position as a world leader in the marine industries.

Newly elected Tory council leader Richard Bingley said: “Mixing our energy, ambition and growing expertise here is our city, there is no reason why we cannot deliver thousands of higher-value jobs for our residents during the upcoming decade and beyond.”

He said the new initiatives will build on Plymouth’s 200 year legacy as a global centre of marine innovation, and its impressive marine sector pedigree.
