A new record for the single largest tonnage ever moved in a day within the Cattewater for the Port of Plymouth has been set. The record set on May 3, 2022, included an export cargo shipment of over 8000 tons leaving the port aboard Norwegian flagged MV Wilson North for Rotterdam.
With over two and a quarter million tons shipped through the port annually, and over 1000 pilotage moves conducted annually, the UK Government has recognised the Port of Plymouth for its vital infrastructure.
Better connectivity is at the heart of Governments plans but shipping routes, particularly around the UK, taking freight off the roads and onto ships is also at the heart of Government plans to reach net zero targets by 2050. The port has been highlighted as the South West hub for connectivity.
